How to do gal makeup without lashes or lenses (90's/2000's inspired)

How ya doing!? <3

This post isn't really a tutorial, it's more of an advice/guide post on how to do gyaru makeup without contact lenses or false eyelashes. However, keep in mind that this is recommend for experienced gals. If you're a baby gal, this might be trickier than a look with long, thick lashes and circle lenses!

This look is inspired by the 1990's and early 2000's when gals didn't wear circle lenses or falsies very often and it wasn't as necessary as it became later. Although many did wear lenses, they didn't have the same enlarging effect as circle ones.

I became more and more inclined to old school style inspired as I became busier (a.k.a less likely to wake up early enough. I'm prioritizing my sleep a lot these days). I do like my makeup with false lashes a lot better, but my glue takes a while to dry so I can take about 10-5 minutes to do both upper and lower lashes.

Let's break down the old school look!

BASE:

First, you might have noticed that old school was all about tan and highlighting. It's very important to focus on your base makeup! If you're skipping nose contouring/stripe, you're already doing it wrong. This and light, arched, thin brows are what will sustain your whole look to make it gal.

Your look will hardly work out if you're going for Instagram Baddie brows. Keep it as thin and light as possible; preferably, shave your real brows.

Not feeling like tanning anytime soon? Me neither. But bronzers or slightly darker foundation (I said SLIGHTLY! Use common sense!) can give the illusion of a sun-kissed complexion. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Hoola bronzer by Benefit Cosmetics. It's not really visible in my photos because my camera is one of those whitewashing ones but a good bronzer makes a lot of difference. Also, a little bit of highlighter on cheek and brow bones never killed nobody!

A nice, flashy blush is very handy as well, specially if your tan is more toned down or non-existent. Bright pink and orange are the best ones.

EYES:

Eyeshadow/base: I personally like bright colors and shimmering/metallic shadows, whether it's old school inspired or not. Blues, whites and silvers are some the most common shades for this kind of look, and I think they work out better than neutrals as they're flashier. Remember to give your inner corners a nice highlight too! It's very important to make sure they're always shining and drawing attention!

Eyeliner: Probably the #1 essential item in gal since day one. You can figure out how to do your makeup without lashes, but NEVER without eyeliner.
Try not lining it too thick or too thin, but thinner is definitely better than thicker as it helps your natural lashes stand out when you apply mascara.
Also, I can't stress this enough: LINE YOUR WATERLINE! Wether it's from the inner corner to center, or center only, this makes a WHOLE DIFFERENCE and in my opinion is so essential to simply ignore it. I use pencil eyeliner for the waterlines but some people like using liquid eyeliner. Experimenting is the key.

Droop: Droopier droops require fuller lashes to look good, so it is very important but try not to drag it down too much. As you can see in the pictures, it's not as nearly as dramatic as in a manba or tsuyome look. I like using pencil eyeliner or eyeshadow so I can blend it out a tiny bit too and looks more harmonious without lashes.

Namidabukuro: I've done with and without it, and IMO both look good. However, I try to not do it as dramatic as I'm known for, I try to keep it more subtle, but they do give a more gal vibe to the look + eye-enlarging effect.

Mascara: Here's where the magic happens. Just because you're not wearing falsies, it doesn't mean that lashes aren't any important. The whole thing will come together when you put on mascara, specially after the first coat. And PLEEEAAASEEEE don't forget about the lower lashes!!!! Give them nice coats!!!!!

LIPS

Pretty much the same for other gal styles: pale lips. While some substyles allow playing with darker shades, if you're not wearing lenses or lashes then you definitely don't want to draw attention to your lips.

I think pearlescent, creamy, glossy and shimmering finishes work better than matte but that's just my opinion. I like wearing lip glosses or balms better than lipsticks too. Nivea's Pearly Shine lip balm, NARS' lipgloss in "Turkish Delight" or The Body Shop's watermelon lip balm all got the perfect pale pink shade. M.A.C's "Myth" is a forever gal favorite.

This was my look today:

With glasses and mask:

Previous looks that look more old school:

Of course, I'd much rather wear lashes (as for contacts, never wore them and I don't intend to anytime soon). It's much easier to look gal with them plus they look so nice, but if I'm short on time or feeling too lazy, this is my go-to makeup. Otherwise, I'm an advocate for falsies.

Always keep in mind that this lash-less look is not fit for (ya)manba, tsuyome, agejo, rokku, and other dramatic substyles. It works better for kogal, old-school, and, as in my case, casual/work/daily.

This is my first educational post and I hope it was helpful and that you guys enjoyed! I tried to make it as detailed as possible!

New SheIn gets + random stuff I'm loving ✿

I received a package from Shein a few days ago and I was just so excited about it!

I realized that I lacked good roomwear, everything I owned is just so old now and I barely have actually warm pajamas. Last winter was a struggle, I woke up from feeling cold and having chills too many times at the middle of the night. Also, most of my warm-weather roomwear is literally ripping apart.

Since I got some extra cash last month, I ended up ordering new, cute and warm roomwear! I got two summer sets and one winter set.

In case you didn't know, swans are one of my forever favorite animals (which you were probably aware if you know my full internet name). As a ballet dancer, I'm too obsessed with swans to not get this one. Was the cheapest set, if I'm not mistaken it was about USD$4. The top is a liiiittle bit loose at the sides but it's not that I can't wear it either. It's a great gift for a bunhead friend too!

The winter set is entirely made of plush fabric, it's SO soft, comfy and warm that it feels like I'm inside a stuffed toy! It fits so we'll that it almost feels like it was custom made for me! The most expensive set among them but definitely the best one. I'd 100% recommend to get the more expensive pajamas in the website if you're looking for warm pajamas.

I wish I got a pink set but unfortunately I couldn't find one that's truly warm in my size! (´;ω;`)

And finally, a neon pink hibi set from Romwe and their new Y2K summer collection! Tbh, I barely saw it at the website and immediately added to my cart. Can't never get enough hibiscus prints!

It's just SOOOO comfortable and lightweight and has adjustable straps. I'd actually go out for grocery shopping and such in it too (I've been drugstore shopping with the top already lol). THE perfect gal roomwear, 10/10.

There are some stuff I've been really loving recently!

I sold my soul to Vaseline! Lol

I didn't really know about the many uses and benefits of Vaseline until recently when I read about Sydney Sweeney's skincare routine and she mentioned about using it as an eye cream. I got myself a jar and I'm LOVING it for slugging and keeping my dry skin moisturized during wintertime.

Last time I went to the drugstore I had a discount coupon for Vaseline products and got their hand and nail cream. Been using it everyday before bed and it's one of the best hand moisturizers I've tried so far!

Note that the Vaseline brand was renamed to Vasenol in Brazil for some reason, but it's the exact same brand and products as in the US and rest of the world. But surprise bitch!, if you peel off the label of the Vaseline jar you'll find the original one in English underneath.

New fragrance obsession and boom are peach and strawberry scented stuff! I got the entire peach range from O Boticário for my birthday in March (which also includes booty skincare!) and been slowly getting all of the strawberry stuff from The Body Shop (quite easy when you're the manager of one of their stores). Been switching from the peach body mist from O Boticário to this Strawberry Shortcake one depending on my mood, not to mention about bubblegum-scented things!

I can't help it if it feels just so good to smell exactly like a Strawberry Shortcake doll!

Also, I was too lucky to find these super duper cute slipper boots at my local Walmart! They're very comfy and warm and made my gal roomwear dreams come true! New favorite room shoes!

Were available in pastel pink but I picked the grey ones instead because my experience with pink room slippers was a dirty and traumatic one ಥ_ಥ

Now this is a very random thing and been happening for a while, but I'm loving showertok!

I'm not on TikTok but honestly, who needs to be on TikTok to watch its content nowadays? Pinterest is basically the only SNS that I still use actively and I came across the showertok community a while ago.

If you're not familiar with it, showertok is a community on TikTok that's all about bodycare and shower routines (sometimes they're even themed!). I actually own a collection of body washes, bar soaps, scrubs and shower gels because I hate wearing the same scent everyday! Showertok really speaks to me as both a beauty junkie and a worker at this industry.

That's all for today lol

Hope you have a great day! Byebye!

5 things I've realized and accepted about myself

Hello everyone!

This post is very personal and not related to gal at all, but since my blog is my diary as well, I thought I should write it anyways.

The journey to self-discovery and acceptance isn't an easy one, specially when you were teached to hate yourself as it happened to me. Recently, I've been busy with that job because I got so tired of not fully acknowledging who I actually am. I took some surprising realizations from that.

1. I'm very motherly and I love children. I was made to believe that I have no skill at dealing with children or that there would be no way that I could be a good mother someday. It turns out that I not only love kids but that I'm gonna be an awesome mom at the right time. I absolutely adore looking at the children's sections at stores and daydreaming about buying all of those stuff to my own kid in the future, taking them to a walk in a sunny morning and having fun together. I'm hoping to become a mother of a little girl someday.

Also, have you seen baby feet??? They look like squishy tiny breads!!! I can't wait to have my own baby to squish their little feet!

2. I'm an introvert and that's okay. Finding out that I'm introverted was shocking. The stereotypes around introvert/extrovert don't tell what it actually means and I've always thought of myself as an extrovert. It turns out that being friendly and outgoing have nothing to do with extroversion, nor shyness with introversion.

I love going out with my friends and meeting new people, but nothing's compared to stay by myself and social situations are definitely not how I get recharged. Actually, it withdraws energy from me no matter how much I like it and I always feel like I NEED to stay a while all by myself right after.

Being absent from social media did me wonders and I'm keeping it that way. Society tells us since day one that being introverted is a bad thing, so it took me a few days to fully accept the fact.

I'm outgoing, talkative AND introverted and there's nothing controversial or ironic about that.

3. We all have bad traits and it's alright. I used to believe that my "evil side" is a different person, like a personality aside from the real me. I tried to "kill" this "persona" but I made a catastrophic snowball instead.

Embracing your true self with all of your traits, the good and the bad ones, is much easier and healthier than trying to become a perfect human being. We all have good and bad things to say about ourselves and that's life.

I've learned that it's better being an authentic bad person than a fake and pretentious perfect one.

4. I'm afraid of males and that's not my fault. This is probably the worst topic for me but I've came to understand that I'm not a social failure for being nervous and anxious around men. My previous relationship and the men in my life wounded and scarred me and I'm not fully healed yet.

It's very hard for me to talk about this matter as getting married is my biggest dream, yet it's extremely difficult for me to approach the opposite sex. Romantic relationships are important to me, but I cannot get any closer to men due to becoming too anxious when I'm facing them.

I got bullied for looking like a scared clam around boys, plus it's very frustrating when you're someone who actually likes being committed. But I had to be kind to myself and accept for good that I'm not a dork, or broken, or a shame, or whatever they've called me in the past.

It's something I'm working on because I don't wanna live in fear anymore. I want to have a good time while I'm young, I want to be able to kiss someone again, to go on a date. I don't wanna be a scared clam anymore; instead, I want to show the world the beautiful and precious jewel in me.

5. I'm stronger than I realize. Looking back at the past five years, I can now see that someone weaker would not have survived. I used to think of myself of being weak and inoffensive, but I've both hurt people as a sharped knife and protected those I love as a steel shield. I'm strong and brutal AF, in both good and bad ways.

I'm still learning about myself but it's safe to say that I've walked a few miles already, and I'm proud.

My anime doppelganger!!!???

Everyone's excited about the return of Hunter x Hunter, and although I've never seen or read it, I'm very happy for fans and specially for Mr. Togashi who's feeling better enough to update the series! As a die-hard Sailor Moon fan, I feel like I should be happy and grateful for the improvement of his health (in case you didn't know, he's married to Naoko Takeuchi, the author of Sailor Moon!).

My best friend is SO obsessed with HxH, specially with Hisoka, and yesterday pointed out that I have an uncanny resemblance to a certain character.

If you thought of Illumi, you've got it right.

I've been told a lot of times that I look intimidating and tbh I can see why now lol his huge ass dark eyes freak me out!

Some of my friends' top comments at our WhatsApp group yesterday:

"You've got the same depressive expression"

"He's canonically a ballet dancer [as you are]"

"He dissociates a lot [like you do] too"

"He's very manipulative and I can totally see you being like that if you reached the villain status"

Do you agree or are my friends being plain evil? (≧▽≦) I do think I've got the same creepy, dark-eyed look though! ʘ‿ʘ
