Dia dos namorados (Brazilian Valentine's day)

Yesterday, June 12nd, was Valentine's day in Brazil! Did you know we're the only country in the world that doesn't celebrate on February 14th? The reason is kind of lame: because June used to be commercially weaker than May and July, a deputy in the mid-20th century suggested to change the holiday to June 12th. His suggestion was approved, and since then, we celebrate it in the half of the year.

The history behind it is not very romantic, but I gotta admit: I LOVE working during Dia dos Namorados! It's so special to wrap presents, spray perfume all over it and then write their SO's name with a cursive handwriting in the tag.

I don't have a SO but it makes me happy to know that I'm making someone else's happy! #hopelessromantic

Because I loveeee themed looks so much, of course I had to do a special makeup for the date!

In Brazil, we say "Feliz dia dos namorados" to wish someone a happy valentine's day (。・ω・。)ノ♡

Alongside Dia dos Namorados, there is also Dia de Santo Antônio, the wedding-blessing saint, and Dia de São João, in which we celebrate the Festa Junina. It's an A-MA-ZING festival with a lot of delicious winter and countryside food as candied apple, hot dog and many many many corn food (๑♡⌓♡๑) There is also a variation of square dancing, similar to its North-American counterpart but with its own style.

Bet you learned a lot about Brazilian culture with this post, huh? (◔‿◔)

Bye!
